Four-Day NAMASTE profiling survey camp for Safaimitras successfully concludes

Chandigarh, 23 December: The MC Chandigarh reaffirms its commitment to creating a safer environment for sewermen and their families. The successful  four-day NAMASTE profiling survey camp  concluded today aimed to empower sewermen, ensure their safety, and promote their overall well-being.
While elaborating about the camp, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner said that the NAMASTE profiling survey camp is a crucial step towards prioritizing the welfare of the dedicated sewermen. The MCC is fully committed to providing them with the necessary training and support they need to carry out their critical work.
She further added, “The initiative focused on several key areas:
1. Connecting Sewermen with the Government of India’s database: Efforts were made to link sewermen with the official database to streamline communication and efficiently monitor their welfare.
2. Occupational safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE) kits: Sewermen received vital safety training and were equipped with high-quality PPE kits, enhancing their protection while performing their important tasks.
3. Raising awareness about accessing sanitation equipment and vehicles through the Swachhata Udyami Yojana (SUY): Comprehensive information was provided to sewermen regarding the opportunities available under the SUY scheme, enabling them to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the city.
4. Ensuring protection under Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY): The NAMASTE initiative ensured that sewermen and their families are covered under the AB-PMJAY scheme in case of illness or accidents, providing them with the necessary medical assistance and support.
Since 2016, MC Chandigarh has taken significant steps to eliminate manual cleaning of sewer pipes, adhering to regulatory mandates. The implementation of cutting-edge technology, including Bandicoot sewer cleaning robots, de-silting grabbing machines, de-silting suction machines, sewer inspection cameras, power rodding machines, and sewer root-cutting equipment, aims to eradicate the need for manual waste cleaning and management, ensuring the safety and well-being of the sewermen.
MC Chandigarh remains committed to implementing innovative initiatives and adopting advanced technologies to improve the welfare and safety of its sewermen. The NAMASTE profiling/survey camp represents a significant step forward in this ongoing endeavor.
